Society for Research Synthesis Methodology
Developing and promoting innovative and robust methods of research synthesis
About
SRSM is a cross disciplinary society that supports and promotes the development and use of innovative and robust methods of research synthesis.
We facilitate the development and use of best methods by providing opportunities to share, discuss and receive feedback on theoretical and practical methodological advances; empirical exploration of methods including assessment of feasibility and comparison of alternatives; and implementation of novel approaches in practice.
Our scope is broad and encompasses methods relating to question formulation and framing, information retrieval, data mining, data handling and manipulation, statistical analysis, narrative synthesis, data presentation, interpretation, contextualisation and means of ensuring that knowledge gained from research syntheses is transferred effectively to those who need to know about them.

- Share ideas about methods of research synthesis across disciplines and among those with differing professional backgrounds
- Promote and encourage the use of appropriate and robust methods of synthesis, including by those who are not methodological experts
- Help establish research synthesis and related methods in new areas of application
- Help develop the next generation of methodologists
Enabling objectives
- Host annual meetings that foster collaboration and sharing of ideas through presentation discussion, debate and networking
- Produce the high quality journal Research Synthesis Methods
- Advocate the importance of using robust methods of synthesis including by interfacing with other groups and societies engaged in the research synthesis endeavour
