Evidence Synthesis Hackathon
The Evidence Synthesis Hackathon (ESH) Series was founded in 2017 to drive progress in technology for evidence synthesis. ESH is an “unconference” style event with a focus on the development, testing and promotion of new software and workflows. We aim to build networks and capacity among researchers, practitioners and developers and advocate for open synthesis. Our goal is to create workflows that are open, reproducible, based on the best available technology and methods; and supported by the community. Examples of our previous and ongoing projects can be found on our website.
In 2025, we will be hosting a 2-day ESHackathon on July 7th and 8th, in coordination with the Annual Meeting of SRSM. If you are interested in joining us, please complete this brief interest survey that includes a few questions about your experience and the topics you would like to see covered during the Hackathon. We will post a list of some potential projects for involvement one month before the Hackathon, with opportunities to indicate your interest.
Workshop on AI Infrastructure for Evidence Synthesis
Have ideas on what new AI-based tools are needed to transform research synthesis, while maintaining rigorous systematic review standards? Interested in discussing ideas beyond what the latest large language models might be able to automate? If so, you are invited to join a free pre-conference workshop and interactive conversation on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 12:30-4:30 pm. Dr. Joshua Polanin at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) will lead the event, connecting the discussion to a new incubator project funded by the National Science Foundation that will submit AI-based research synthesis infrastructure development plans in late 2026. Read more and sign up here. The registration deadline is April 1, 2025. Space is limited to 40 attendees.
